Yuvraj Singh

Full Name: Yuvraj Singh
Born: December 12, 1981, Chandigarh
Major teams: India, Punjab, Yorkshire
Batting style: Left-hand bat

Yuvraj Singh (born December 12, 1981) is a cricketer from India, and the son of former Indian fast bowler Yograj Singh. He is a member of the Indian cricket team since 2000. He was born at Chandigarh. He made his one-day international debut against Kenya at Nairobi, at the ICC Knock-Out Trophy, and Test debut against New Zealand at Mohali. He didnt get to bat in his first ODI, but showed his real character in his second game which was against the Australians where he scored a phenomenal 84 off 82 balls. He played bowlers like Glenn McGrath, Brett Lee and Jason Gillespie with great venom.

Yuvraj is primarily a left-handed batsman but can bowl part-time left-arm spin. He can demolish pace bowling but his aggressive style of batting is often a cause of his demise against spin bowling. He is seen as part of the new brigade of young cricketers who can form the nucleus of the Indian team in the future. He is also a great asset in the field. But his successes were only limited against fast bowling, he has rarely been successful against the slow bowlers.

He is and will always be remembered for his great partnership with Mohammad Kaif in the Natwest Series final against England. He had scored some memorable half-centuries for India in ODIs but a hundred was due. It came as last as in his fourth season with the Indian team against Bangladesh. After that he also scored hundreds against Zimbabwe and Australia. In the Indian Oil Cup 2005, he made a brilliant 110 (of 114 balls) (his third century) and an important partnership worth 165 runs with Mohammad Kaif, to become the man of the match against West Indies in the last match of the round robin league.

His Test debut at his home ground Mohali, against the touring Kiwis was not a memorable one. But he soon made up with a century against Pakistan in his second Test at Lahore. He has many times been plagued by poor form. But the Indian captain, Sourav Ganguly, has always had confidence in his players, and so also with Yuvraj.

Recovering Yuvraj Singh inspired by Armstrong message

Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh, who is undergoing chemotherapy for cancer, has tweeted that he is feeling "better" after receiving a message of support from cycling legend Lance Armstrong

"Go Yuvi! Livestrong," said the message, which Yuvraj put up on his Twitter account.
Armstrong, who was treated for testicular cancer, runs a foundation called Livestrong for cancer survivors.
Yuvraj is being treated in the US for a rare form of cancer, which is curable.
"I want you to know that the entire Livestrong team is here for you. We say it all the time, and truly believe in it. Knowledge is power, unity is strength and attitude is everything," said the message from Armstrong.
"Please know that we are here to help you and your family in any way possible."
Yuvraj tweeted that the message "makes me feel better".
"Thank you Lance, means a lot, hope we can meet," he said.
Earlier, Yuvraj had said he was reading the autobiography of Armstrong, who recovered from testicular cancer, and that he would like to meet the cyclist.
The 30-year-old cricketer is being treated for a rare form of cancer, called seminoma.
Yuvraj's health first deteriorated during the World Cup last year, in which he was the man of the tournament and helped India win the trophy for the first time since 1983.
Against Ireland, Yuvraj became the first player to take five wickets and score 50 in a World Cup match.
